HSLDA PRESIDENT MIKE SMITH TO SPEAK IN VANCOUVER! Come and be encouraged as Mike Smith talks about the challenges, burdens,
and benefits of homeschooling from a veteran homeschool father and leader's
perspective. Mike is a talented and encouraging speaker, and this evening will be a
blessing to current homeschoolers, veteran homeschoolers and all homeschoolers
in between. Admission to this special event, sponsored by First
Class Homeschool Ministries and hosted by LifePoint Church is FREE. We hope you'll
invite anyone interested in homeschooling. RESOURCE & INFORMATION NIGHT Come join us at our annual Resource and Information Night on Monday,
August 30 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at First Church of God! In many ways
this event will be the same as in years past, but we've introduced some
changes which we hope you'll enjoy! The evening will begin with an encouraging beginning-of-the-school-year
message for both new and veteran homeschoolers by Carrie Patterson, who has
taught a course in homeschooling for many years, at 6:30
in room 120. In addition to teaching her own family, Carrie tutors, does testing,
teaches classes, and is affiliated with Academy Northwest. You can visit her website
at www.salmoncrlc.vilko.net.
Whether you're new to homeschooling or you've "been around
the block," you won't want to miss this opportunity to be encouraged
as you start the new school year! As in previous years, Resource Night will feature over 20 vendor
booths in the exhibit hall. The vendors represent organizations and
individuals who offer music classes, sports, science classes, co-ops,
art instruction, tutoring, testing, academics, and more! At 7:00, following
Terri Johnson's message, we will introduce each of our vendors to the
group in room 120 and give a brief description of their services. Then
it's off to the exhibit hall to check out the vendor booths! The
exhibit hall will be open from 7:30-9:00. Another new and exciting feature of Resource Night this year is that
during the exhibit hall time from 7:30-9:00, there will be 15-minute
entertaining demonstrations given by four local groups. This is a great
opportunity to see first-hand what our homeschool students are doing! DECLARATION OF INTENT TO HOMESCHOOL FORMS DUE BY SEPT. 15 If you will be homeschooling children between the ages of 8 and 18, remember
to submit your Declaration of Intent form to your local school district office by Sept.
15. For more information on state law, testing, parent qualifying, etc., see the tab
"Homeschooling in Clark County" and click on "WA State Laws,"
or for a more thorough explanation of the Declaration of Intent, see Christian Homeschool Network of Washington
(CHNOW). Some school districts ask more than we are required to give by
Washington state homeschool law. Some commonly asked questions are also listed
on the CHNOW website (see above). HELP WANTED CCHE is still in need of a few volunteers to help with the newsletter. We are looking for
people who are willing and able to report on one or two events or organizations each
month. You can choose what you'd like to report on, or we can give you some
suggestions, for example: the library, OMSI, CYT, First Class, etc. With just a couple
items to report on, it shouldn't take much time but it would be greatly appreciated
by the current newsletter staff! Also, we would like to find someone to do layout (arranging the articles on the
pages) for the newsletter each month. This would be a great volunteer opportunity
for either an adult or high school student who is familiar newsletter layout or
something similar. If you could spare a few hours each month and are interested in helping us out,
please contact Connie Zumstein at czumstein@juno.com. WANTED: CCHE EVENTS IDEAS BECOME A CCHE MEMBER AND GET: GREAT PLAYS & PERFORMANCES: ATTENTION CCHE MEMBERS--PLEASE ADD CCHE TO YOUR LIST
OF "SAFE SENDERS"! LEARN YOUR HOMESCHOOLING RIGHTS; KNOW THE LAW; KNOW MORE! VISIT CHRISTIAN HOMESCHOOL NETWORK If you have ideas for a speaker or event, please e-mail CCHE. |
