CELEBRATING THE EASTER SEASON

of celebrating Resurrection Sunday. She offers many examples, ideas and

the meaning of this Christian holiday. The workshop will be held Saturday,
March 6 at 1 p.m. at Manor Evangelical Church, 17913 NE 72nd Ave.,
Battle Ground, WA 98604. It is open to the whole family. Pre-registration is
optional but necessary to receive the workshop hand-outs. There is no charge
but a free will offering will be taken. A book table will be available also. To

of hand-outs for the workshop.
EXCEL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAMS
ExCEL Science Olympiad
has teams for homeschoolers in grades 4th-12th. It is open to all
homeschoolers in Clark or Skamania counties. Science Olympiad is a fun
hands-on team nationwide competition. For more info about Science
Olympiad, go to www.soinc.org.
We currently have openings for students wanting to try it out. No science
experience is necessary. Our middle school Gamma team is perfect for
students who want to see what the competition is like and get their feet wet.
This would be for students in grades 4th-9th.
Our high school team (grades 9th-12th) especially needs some more
students. This is a no-pressure team. High schoolers are all very busy, and
we recognize how limited their time is so the team is very low-key. The
regional competition is March 13 at Lower Columbia College in Longview.
Also remember that participating in extra-curricular activities in high school
looks very good on college applications!
For more info about any of the teams, contact Ann Williams, mamabearwilliams@yahoo.com.
HOMESCHOOLING SEMINAR
The Homeschooling Seminar will be held on March 12-13 and April 9-10,
2010. It is for parents who are currently homeschooling or interested in
homeschooling in the future. It fulfills the Washington state requirement
for a course in home-based instruction for parents wanting to homeschool.
In-class sessions are held on the two weekends, with the remaining reading
and activities done at home. The cost is $80 for individuals and $90 for
married couples in the same family, if pre-registered (postmarked) by
March 5. Visit http://salmoncrlc.vilko.net or e-mail salmoncrlc@juno.com or call
360-573-0857 for more information.
RAISING KIDS TO DO HARD THINGS SEMINAR
Raising Kids to Do Hard Things is coming to Portland on March 19th and 20th;
Friday 7-9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This seminar, presented by Gregg
Harris, the father of Alex & Brett Harris, the young co-authors of Do Hard Things,
is far more than a parenting seminar. It's a powerful Christian household
strategy retreat for the whole family (ages 10+). Lisa Nichol has started a
group registration for the seminar. If 10 people sign up in this group (only 6
more are needed at this time), everyone in the group will receive a 10%
discount off the registration fee. You can register at www.dohardthingstogether.com by following the links,
or just go to https://www.noblebooks.org/raising_kids_do_hard_things_10.html to
be taken immediately to the registration page. Click the box "yes"
that asks, "Are you part of a group?" It will then give you a place
to enter a "Group Champion Name." Enter "Lisa Nichol."
This ensures that you will receive the group discount.
AUTISM WORKSHOP
The Autism Society of Washington is offering a one-day workshop on autism,
featuring Peter F. Gerhardt, Ed.D. The title of the workshop is "Autism
Spectrum Disorder: Bridges to Adulthood." It will be held on April 16
at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver. If you would like more information, visit
www.autismsocietyofwa.org or email Autism Community
Services at Consult4Autism@gmail.com.
LAPBOOKING WORKSHOP COMING IN APRIL
Join Heidi St. John for an evening of encouragement and learning as she talks
about Lapbooking! Heidi will show you how to make one from start to finish
and share the benefits and basics of lapbooking, as well as a few tricks for
more "seasoned" lapbookers. Heidi will teach you this wonderful
skill using the "show 'n tell" approach, and she will have
plenty of examples for you to look at and resources to take home. Be sure
to bring a pen or pencil, and your camera if you would like to take pictures
of the lapbooks.
Please note: workshop attendees will not make a lapbook during the
workshop; that would require much more time. Children are welcome to
attend along with their parents. But because the workshop will be
recorded, parents are asked to bring either older children or nursing
babies, and not toddlers.
This workshop will be held on Monday, April 19, from 7 to
8:30 p.m., at First Church of God, 3300 NE 78th St., Room 120, Vancouver,
WA 98665-0656. (Use the west entrance and drive around to the back of
the brick church building; enter through the double doors down a short flight
of steps.) Please pre-register for this workshop; there is a $10 fee, with a
$2 discount for CCHE or First Class members. To pre-register, go to:
http://www.heidistjohn.com/site/pages/speaker/workshop-registration.php
or contact Diane Hurst by phone at (360) 831-9147.
